“As far as I understand there were initially 5 hulls produced, 2 were fitted out by ‘Tideway Boat Construction’ in Salcombe and the other three, I believe by their owners. Interestingly 2 more hulls have been built in the last 3 years as engine less Gaff Rigged open fishing boats by a charity based in Plymouth.
As her present owner I can vouch for her sea-kindliness and good manners both under sail or motor and wouldn’t hesitate to take her into the blue waters.
I bought her with the view to sail her to the Algarve for a couple of years or so (once more for old time sake), but Covid altered those plans as it did for many people, so instead I spent the time changing things to my own liking and the usual upgrade after 10 years. A lot of the work didn't really need doing, but I enjoy doing it, in any case, what else was there to do during lockdown? With her working boat design, many people would consider her to be a heavy boat, but that doesn't affect her sailing ability and in my view improves it, they knew a thing or two in those days, indeed she will often see off a lightweight modern yacht and frighten many others, (very satisfying), she is also not difficult to sail, I sail her mostly single handed including my annual trip from Guernsey to England to cruise up or down the coast looking up friends along the way, after all that’s what it’s all about.”
